CYMAZ Music Leaders
CYMAZ works with music leaders with a range of experience, skills and backgrounds to provide a broad range of opportunities to young people. Music is a powerful and effective tool to transform lives and CYMAZ is lucky to work with passionate and talented musicians to deliver a range of musical opportunities. This can be a range of instrumental work in a variety of genres, vocal work including rap and spoken word and music technology and DJing. Many CYMAZ music leaders have Youth Work backgrounds and have experience of working with groups of children and young people who may have varying levels of ability, needs or face particular challenges in their lives. All CYMAZ and CYMAZ approved music leaders;
• are skilled musicians/educators
• work within the values and ethos of CYMAZ; Young person centred approach, partnership working, providing a high quality service and access and participation for all
• have experience of working with young people from a range of different backgrounds
• are CRB checked
• hold public liability insurance
• document and evidence the impact of our work using Youth Music Outcomes (originated from Charities Evaluation Service)
• engage in regular training
• are signed up to and adhere to the national MusicLeader Code of Practice developed by MusicLeader.net (a Youth Music initiative promoting CPD for music leaders)
• are networked with organisations across Cornwall, regionally and Nationally and can provide advice and signposting to young people
In order to help us achieve high quality and a consistent approach for delivery a series of CPD opportunities were offered to music leaders and partners in 2010-2011, including the Youth Music Outcomes Training and MusicLeader Code of Practice Training.
“Following 3 CPD sessions with CYMAZ I have been given the chance to develop my own skills as a music leader. Starting a new workshop and developing a relationship with the group/community/youth workers/parents has been the best teacher in itself. I have been fully supported by CYMAZ. The CPD sessions content were invaluable but equally invaluable was the time spent with other music leaders over coffee and lunch.” (CYMAZ music leader)
