How it Works

Through making music, young people who may be “failing” in school find that they can achieve. This is because:

  • the community musicians, often “failures” at school, are role models who earn their living playing music
  • the learning is pupil centred
  • the young people choose their own music
  • they go at their own pace, usually with an agreed learning plan
  • they learn in an informal environment
  • they succeed because in the CYMAZ workshop the fear of failure has been removed
