Port Eliot Festival on CYMAZ Radio and Source FM

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The CYMAZ team have just got back from the Port Eliot Festival today after a wonderful weekend of music, fun and sun (and a bit of rain too!)   The young artists who performed at the Twenty Five Tent were all fantastic and we got hours and hours of great performance and interview recordings from them.  We’ll be adding these to our CYMAZ Radio Facebook page over the next few days so please go there and have a listen and give all these talented young guys the recognition they deserve.  If you like what you hear (which you almost certainly will!), please give young people’s music in Cornwall your support by joining our group.

CYMAZ Radio has also just featured on The Source FM radio station this evening, with lots of content from the Port Eliot Festival.   If you missed the broadcast, we’ll be posting the ‘Listen Again’ link for you later in the week when they upload it to their website so you can hear it then.

CYMAZ at the Port Eliot Festival

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

CYMAZ is delighted to be working with Rogue Theatre at the Port Eliot Festival this weekend, running the Green Room by the 25 Tent.    We’d love you to drop in and say Hi if you are at the festival; if not we aim to post regular festival updates on the website and CYMAZ Radio Facebook page over the weekend.

As all our staff will be at Port Eliot it means that there will be no-one in the CYMAZ offices from Thursday 22nd to Monday 26th July inclusive.   Please feel free to e-mail us or leave a message on the answermachine and we’ll deal with it as soon as we get back.   In the case of an emergency you’ll be able to get hold of the team on 07791 744718.

CYMAZ at the Port Eliot Festival

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

CYMAZ is delighted to be working with Rogue Theatre again at the Port Eliot Festival  between 23rd and 25th July this year, managing the Green Room for the 25 Tent.

In case you don’t know, ‘25’ is a place to showcase the rich and diverse talent of young people in Cornwall up to the age of 25.  The Green Room will be a space for the young performers to relax, network, receive music industry advice, sign up to and create content for CYMAZ Radio.

The festival is providing CYMAZ with the opportunity to launch CYMAZ Radio and the Young People’s Music and Radio Network in Cornwall and we will be creating a radio show on each day of the festival.  To get a taste of what goes on in the 25 Tent, click here to go to our Radio Podcast page and listen to the radio programme that we made at Port Eliot last year.

BBC Encourages Young Composers

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Young Composers’ Competition

Now in its twelfth year, the prestigious BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition gives young composers aged 12-18 a chance to get their music heard by a wider audience. Young composers will need to enter their own, original piece of music – no more than five minutes long – to the BBC Proms judging panel, who’ll choose the winning compositions, which are then performed at the Young Composers’ Concert during the BBC Proms season and broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

If they win, they’ll also receive a commission to be performed and recorded by BBC musicians at the 2010 Inspire events, and get to work with top composers and musicians in a series of workshops to develop thier commission. Last years winners were commissioned to write for the last night of the Proms!

Anyone who enters the Young Composers’ Competition or attends a lab can attend Inspire Day, a day of workshops that will challenge and inspire them to compose in ways they’d never thought of, in London on 2 August 2010.

BBC Proms Composer Labs

As part of the scheme, we offer composer labs throughout the UK. These labs help young people meet other composers, share ideas and discover new ones, develop a deeper understanding on how to use use rhythm, harmony, melody and form and how to make them their own.

Composer Labs are a unique chance to join professional musicians from the UK’s top orchestras and the BBC Singers, top composers and the BBC Proms team in a day of music making, exploration and discovery.

Labs will be held at locations around the UK between February and April.

Youth Music Week Events a Great Success

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Last week was Youth Music Week and CYMAZ’s contributions to this nationwide celebration of young people’s music making were a resounding success.

On Thursday 12th November, nearly 30 young people got involved in our free music workshop at The House in St Austell and our spectacular Showcase Talent Gig at the Livewire Youth Project in Saltash on Saturday 14th attracted an audience of well over 200!  Both events were well covered in the local press, which certainly helped the high attendance figures.

We’d like to offer our thanks to all those involved who made both evenings so memorable:  Andy Rance and the crew at Livewire, Jamie Crowe, Roger Luxton, all the guys at The House, Youth Music (especially for providing those exceptionally cool torches!), Young Promoters, all the superb performers and everyone who came along and enjoyed themselves.
