Charles Causley Festival – 1st-5th June 2011

May 11th, 2011

Launceston’s Charles Causley Festival celebrates and promotes the best of literature and arts from across the region, showcasing writers, poets, musicians, and performers through a series of talks, book signings, exhibitions, workshops, guided tours, performances and more held across a variety of venues within the historic north Cornish town of Launceston.

This year there will be a Rap Workshop run by the rapper, writer and multi-instrumentalist Dizraeli.   We’d particularly like to encourage young people to take part but the workshop has limited tickets so anyone who is interested needs to get their tickets now. Tickets for the rap workshop are £5 and as well as the workshop, participants can attend or take part in a poetry slam and Dizraeli performance later that evening.

Tickets are available to buy in person from Launceston Tourist Information Centre or by phone/online from the Hall for Cornwall 01872 262466 / www.hallforcornwall.co.uk.    For more information on the Charles Causley Festival and to see what else is happening during the week, visit their website www.charlescausleyfestival.co.uk  or their Facebook group ‘Charles Causley Festival’.

CYMAZ Office Move Update

April 13th, 2011

As you may be aware from previous posts, CYMAZ is moving to pastures new this month and we are currently in the process of relocating to new offices at Krowji in Redruth.

This means that we need to shut down all our old systems in Truro and re-set them up again at Redruth, which will result in a period of time when communications with us will be disrupted.

On Monday 18th April and Tuesday 19th April we will be unable to access e-mails (as our old e-mail server is shut down and everything transferred to our new one) and any e-mails you send us on these days may well be undelivered and bounce back to you, unread.   We may also not be contactable by phone as it’ll be pot luck if you manage to catch anyone in the right office!  For anything urgent during this period, or in case of emergency, our Director Jane Staffieri can be contacted on 07791 744718.

Our new address and telephone number are now on our CONTACTS page.

Please note that, while you may still be able to get hold of Core Team members beforehand, our first full working day at the new office will be Tuesday 26th April.

CYMAZ IS MOVING!

April 6th, 2011

During April, we are relocating to new, larger offices at Krowji in Redruth and, as such, the CYMAZ Office will be closed from Wednesday 6th April until Monday 25th April.

During this period, we are unlikely to be able to pick up calls or messages left on our main Truro telephone number (01872 270074) so the best way to contact the staff team will be via e-mail, although we may experience a short disruption to e-mails as our system is transferred to a new server.     Contact details for the staff team can be found on our CONTACTS page.  In case of emergency our Director, Jane Staffieri, can be contacted on 07791 744718.

Any updates (including our new Redruth telephone number) will be posted here in our NEWS section.

IdeasTap Funding for Young Creative Ideas and Projects

March 7th, 2011

IdeasTap is an arts charity established to help young, creative people at the start of their careers.   As part of its funding responsibilities, the charity operates the Ideas Fund Innovators Programme.

The Fund offers ten awards of £1,000 in each application round (there are four per year), to young people between the ages of 16 and 25, who have a creative project they want to get off the ground.  In the past, dance and film projects, music videos and photography collectives have been supported.  Ideas should be inspiring, original, realistic and innovative.

Applications must demonstrate that the Fund will enhance the quality and ambition of their ideas and projects in ways that would not be possible without the support of the Fund and acknowledge that the project has not been done before.

Applications can be made at any time, however; all applications will be assessed in one of the four yearly rounds.

IdeasTap has announced its most recent deadline, 5 pm on 21st March 2011.

Calling Singers – Unplugged at the Eden Project

March 1st, 2011

Take Part in a World Premiere!

Create and perform the largest musical work ever to be staged at the Eden Project, written and directed by acclaimed composer Tim Sutton.  Performed across the whole width of the Eden crater by singers, brass and percussion, Unplugged will build a third Biome with sound.

The music will draw on Cornwall’s folk traditions and the history of the region’s mining industry.  It will speak powerfully of our connection to the environment.  It will be a zero-carbon performance of about half an hour, taking place in daylight hours and using no electro amplification.

If you are committed, enthusiastic and 16 or over, click the following link to an application form with further details (please note that if you under 18, Eden will need to talk to you about supervision requirements for the event).

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 15th March.
